When children graduate from the Baby/Toddler, Toddler, 3-year old, 4-year old, and 5-year old room, parents or guardians are presented with a portfolio of their child’s development. The purpose of this portfolio is to document their development in several areas during their time in that classroom. We base our portfolios off of the Nebraska Early Learning Guidelines. These guidelines provide structure to our portfolios by dictating seven different areas for development. These areas include: Creative Arts, Social and Emotional Development, Approaches to Learning, Health and Physical Development, Language and Literacy Development, Mathematics, and Science. Teachers plan activities to allow children to actively engage in learning and developing these seven areas.
Twice a year, Kids First hosts a portfolio party. At this time, teachers make their portfolios available to parents in an “open house” format. The portfolio party is not the only time parents are able to view their child’s portfolio. Parents are welcome to view their child’s portfolio upon request to see all the things their children have been doing day to day.
